How to Spot a Marketing or Advertising Expert Who Doesn't Understand Marketing's True Purpose

You can tell you're talking to a marketing "expert" pretty simply. Just listen for these tell tale signs:

  • They say "A prospect has to see/hear your ad at least 6-12 times before they will take action." (See the source of this Effective Frequency myth)
  • They spend more time focusing on the image in the ad than they do defining the target market, crafting the headline and defining the call to action.
  • They say things like "Ads have to be short and catchy".
  • Tag-line and logo development will be an important part of their "strategy".
  • "Advertising and marketing cannot be measured, what's important is getting your name out there."

Finally, and this is an absolute 100% dead give away that your marketing and advertising "expert" doesn't understand marketing's true purpose...your "expert" cold-called you!
